If your dog is diagnosed with flea allergies, you will be given prescription for flea-prevention medication. This can be topical or oral. More serious cases may even require steroids or antihistamines. vet may also shave areas that have become infected due to scratching and apply ointment to them.

If you have topical medication, follow application instructions on package. Most medications go at back of dog's head, between shoulder blades, so that dog can't lick it off. Oral medications should be given as directed.

Let your dog outside for shorter periods of time. While your dog is still going to need to go out for exercise and to bathroom, keeping her tied up in yard all day is only giving fleas more time to attach themselves.

Bayour dog every week or two with shampoo designed to prevent and kill fleas. Make sure you pay attention to what flea medication says about bathing, and if you have to reapply after every bath.
